The low carbon steel shot, free of cracks, has a higher wear resistance and consequently a higher durability than the high Carbon content shot. In the latter, cracks appear during the manufacturing process, accentuating them during the subsequent heat treatment. The low carbon content shot has a different metallurgical structure, this phenomenon of crack formation does not occur.
The low carbon steel shot is made from highly selected scrap with a low content of Carbon, Sulfur and Phosphorus. After the atomization of the steel casting, a bainite microstructure is obtained, more tenacious and more durable than the martensitic structure of the high carbon content steel shot.
The low carbon steel shot has a bainitic structure without fissures. The consumption of steel shot decreases in the order of 20%, compared to the use of steel shots of high Carbon content.
